Apple today updated its Sports app with support for the FA Community Shield, the annual English football pre-season opener where the reigning champions of the Premier League take on the FA Cup winners.

This year will see league champions Liverpool Football Club take on FA Cup holders Crystal Palace at the traditional Wembley Stadium venue in London on Sunday, August 10.

Liverpool secured a record-equaling 20th top-flight league title when they were crowned Premier League winners in late April following an unassailable lead, while Crystal Palace lifted the FA Cup in May for the first time in their history, beating Manchester City in a dramatic final.

Following this app update, Apple Sports is now also available in Mexico, allowing Liga MX fans to stay up-to-date with their local team and follow progress in the MLS Leagues Cup.

Elsewhere in the Apple Sports app version 3.1, Apple says that more information will now show in the box scores, allowing fans to see more performance stats about their favorite players in real-time.

This is just the latest enhancement that Apple has rolled out for its Sports app, which most recently saw a June update that brought a new home screen layout as well as support for tennis.

Launched in February 2024, the Apple Sports app shows scores, stats, standings, upcoming games, and more for a variety of leagues. Along with Mexico, the free app is available on the iPhone in the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada.

Thi sis excellent and supplies me with a fast update - from whence, if I opt, to look further into a game or standings.

I can’t tell you how many times I have downloaded this app. But every time there is some kind of non-starter for me - usually in the leagues covered. So I have given up. I much prefer a sports app called theScore.

FotMob is the king of football apps. It's a miracle one of the major media companies hasn't bought them out and ruined it.

I haven’t heard of FotMob, does it cover international leagues as well, or is it a UK thing?

I have been using Forza Football for years, I wonder how do they compare.

why does such a basic application exist only in select countries?

In Europe we call it football😀😉

In most of the American continent (the Americas) as well, all of Latin America (650 million people), and most of the Caribbean.

I think you can count with one hand the number of countries in the world that use Soccer in relation to Football.

Considering that there is multiple different companies offerings the same in their apps and websites, I don’t think that’s the case.
I don't see how that follows. Other companies have licenses to publish the data in other countries. Apple doesn't yet. I certainly don't claim to have inside information, I just think that's the most likely explanation. What do you think could be more likely?

Still no Lower Leauge support, so it is not a true sports app. Futmob will always be king until apple realise its not just about 2 UK leagues !
The overwhelming majority of the interest is in those two British leagues plus the Champions League. I hear you, though.

I think the US and Canada may be the outliers here. Likely as they both have their non-football football teams.

Good to know about this but want to see the sports app in more regions. Looks like it will take a long time before it is made available in my country.
