Is there anyway to check if Apple is still actually signing 4.1?

5.0.1 was dead-ass slow on my 3GS and 5.1 ain't much better. zombiPhone... :(

Uggggggghh lame. Thanks for the info bro

I think it's still being signed. I downgraded my old 3GS from 5.0.1 to 4.1 the other day even without SHSH blobs. I just downloaded the 4.1 firmware and did a Shift+Click Restore through iTunes. The progress bar went all the way and then froze the first time, meaning I had to do a second restore for it to work. I did some poking around and it seems that that's common procedure when downgrading the 3GS to 4.1: restore it twice.

Thanks, pk7! I will try that.

No problem.

Also, make sure you have RecBoot or TinyUmbrella handy as well, because after the second restore, iTunes will give you a baseband error and kick the phone into recovery mode, and to get into 4.1 you will need to kick it back out.

Ok, thank you! I'll update this thread when I attempt the restore!

*update*

I tried to restore to 4.1 a few times, DFU mode, straight restore, recovery mode, etc., with no luck. I kept getting Error 3194. I tapped "Erase All Content and Settings" and re-setup the 3GS as a new iPhone. It's been running like BUTTER ever since. ;)

Apple still signs 4.1, I do not why, but thaks God!

What you have to do is restore to a 4.1 custom firmware (firmware without the baseband) if you don't want to get an error. You can make a custom firmware with last redsn0w.

Then you'll have to put it into custom DFU mode (also do that with redsnow) then shift+restore with iTunes

I'm doing this right now, and it works for sure.

Good luck!

please give me a step by step

all my grief started when i upgraded to 5.0.1 after having a very stable 4.1

if downgrading is an option i would like to do it.
but i dont understand the procedure written on this thread ....maybe im missing some of the common assumed steps.

could someone give me a 101/step by step/ for dummies style procedure for the downgrade.

i have my shsh blobs saved for 4.1, 5.0.1, i am using a 3GS 5.0.1, bb 6.15.00

You have to make a custom firmware, since you have the ipad bb.
Make sure you turn on the tu server and that you have your blobs on your computer (if the blobs are on cydia, direct servers there instead).
Why don't you post what you did? Make sure to include every step.

Well, I'll try to describe all the steps:

1-Download sn0wbreeze v2.9.3 from here http://downloads.ih8sn0w.com/sn0wbreeze-v2.9.3.zip

2-Download iPhone firmware 4.1 for your 3G/3GS from here http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/

If it a .zip file you downloaded don't extract it, just rename as .ipsw.

3-Run sn0wbreeze as administrator, click on the blue buton with an arrow, then BROWSE the ipsw downloaded in step 2, then click on New-Bootrom/I don't know.

4-Click the next arrow, then on Baseband Preservation Mode, then wait the process to complete.

5-Press OK and follow the instructions to put the iPhone into DFU mode.

6-Your iPhone must be on a black screen now, close sn0wbreeze and open iTunes.

7-iTunes now detects an iPhone on recovery mode, shift+click restore, select the sno0wbreeze ipsw file that is in your desktop.

8-Wait the process to complete, then activate with the original SIM card as usual, and you are good to go!

You also can click on Expert mode in step 4, and make an ipsw jailbroken, with cydia preinstalled, and (if you don't have the original SIM card) hacktivated, if you want

Good luck!! And let me know if it work for you

Thanks for this excellent and detailed workaround.
I take it the iPhone 4 with 5.1 installed is not acceptable to this downgrade fix?
