Apple today stopped signing iOS 18.0, preventing iPhone users who have upgraded to iOS 18.0.1 from downgrading to iOS 18. Apple released iOS 18.0.1 a week ago on October 3.

It is not unusual for Apple to stop signing older versions of iOS within a week or two after a new version of iOS is released. When Apple stops signing an update, it can no longer be installed on an iPhone due to a server-side software verification check that happens before new software is installed, so those who have upgraded to the latest version of iOS 18 cannot downgrade to iOS 18.0.

Apple prevents downgrading to older versions of iOS to encourage iPhone users to keep their operating systems up to date with the latest security fixes. iPhone 16 users who have upgraded to iOS 18.0.1 can no longer install any older software, but iPhone 15 and earlier users have the option of downgrading to iOS 17.7, which is also still signed.

The iOS 18.0.1 update addressed bugs with the touch screen, Camera, and Messages app, plus it fixed two vulnerabilities.

And who would downgrade to 18.0?
I never upgrade. I just leave the phone on the .0 version it came with. Don't want to bother with learning new bugs while the fix old ones.

My iPhone 14 is still on iOS 16.0 And even though it have numerous flaws some stuff aren't fixed anyway. Other bugs will have been fixed, but new one will be loaded to your device no matter what. What they ought to do:

Have users make choices:
- download bug fixes software
- allow removal of features / software
- download new features / software
- disagree to new terms and conditions while keep on using current software
- allow downgrading software like people can do on the Mac.

Sorry but I think that is dumb policy. X.0 versions always have bugs that get improved with X.1 or X.01 versions, and iOS 18.0 was a perfect example. 18.0 had a bug that caused the display not to sense touch.

I agree with some of your other points like disagree to new terms and conditions while keep on using current software.

Agree. X.0 versions are always the buggiest.

With iOS 18.0, my iPhone sometimes randomly reboots (like not totally reboot - like half-reboot/"resprings"), mostly when I switch between things too fast.

A lot of us have not even upgraded to iOS 18 and not planning to for some time. If we purchase a newer iPhone well then we’ll become a beta tester user like you all.

This seems to be the first time that a downgrade to a previous major version [iOS 17.7] is still allowed while the newest major x.0 version [iOS 18.0] is no longer available/allowed to install...

My company forced us to update to 18.0 shortly after its release. It has been a buggy mess for me. 18.0.1 did not improve any of what I am seeing. Ironically, the biggest issue I have is the Outlook app keeps graying out and I cannot launch it. I get work email notifications, but I can't see any context unless I "open the Outlook App"... well uh, I can't.

This has been possible for the last 2-3 major releases from what I can remember.
