I had my order all favorited up. When the app came online, I went to my account and selected my favorited phone. Weirdest thing - it still had me to through and select my color and capacity and payment method (for me, pay in full). What the heck? Did this happen to anyone else?

It happened to me as well, wasn’t an inconvenience though. The options I was contemplating were still under my favorites but I still had to pick the configurations all over again.

Same here. App store in iPhone was not open until 12:11PST and then favorite failed. Had to go login on Mac to complete the order.
Same here. It didn’t even go up till it said 4-5 weeks shipping on the Apple store app. Thankfully this isn’t my first rodeo. So I ditched the app, used Safari. No issues doing it that way. But I had to choose the phone I didn’t want at first, since the 64GB sold out immediately. So I am now getting a Silver X 256GB next Friday.
My favorites looked a little different this time. Before the Apple store went down, I opened the app and clicked on “my account” and pictures of each iPhone I favorited were automatically there”

app screwed me over, couldnt get in until 12:05 and favorites screwed up. confirmation pages show 2-3 weeks but when i submitted my order it said nov 3rd. i wish i screenshotted it.
If I'd prepped for the desktop site from the beginning, I may have scored a Nov date. But no, I followed Apples advice and now I'm 6 weeks due. Weird thing is, my previous pre-orders were all successful on the app. I feel like Apple throwing out the word that the app was the best way to go may have overloaded it, otherwise it would have been the same smooth service as usual.
