Apple store app or verizon

Last year was the first time I preordered an iPhone. I called verizon at 3:01am and was finished pretty quick. I had a delivery date a week after release date.
A friend of mine said I should use the apple store app at 3:01 tonight because I'd have a better chance to get it on release date.

Wtf? I told him that wasn't true. But I don't have experience to back it up.

Anyone order from verizon and get it on release day?

because it sounds like crap. I always thought it was the luck of the draw.

Honestly, I'd stick with what worked before.

this year I'm calling VZ & using the APL AP. I have 4 lines, so I'm doubling down on my chances.

I'm also pre-approved through IUP, so I'm hoping this year its easier than what I went through last year
