Apple Store App - The Secret Pre-Ordering Weapon

This was me last night at 1:55 CST. The App went up exactly at 2 and my order was placed by 2:03. And while I was reading different forums with everyone panicking that the site was down, the app was still running smoothly.

Shout out to all the app users :cool:

I had a similar experience. Apple store on my desktop still showed it was closed when I was able to place my pre-order with the Apple store through the app on my iphone at about 12:05 PST.
 
I would have ordered through Apple store app if I was upgrading my own line. I don't think you can upgrade through the app for someone elses line on a family plan.
 
Same here - the Apple website wouldn't load at all on 3 different browsers on my Mac but yet the App loaded up perfectly fine and there was no issue in moving it over to checkout.

First Apple order placed through the App. :D

I upgraded for someone else on a different family plan via the app. You just need the phone number, last 4 of SSN and billing zip.
 
yeah my app came up first but no matter what i did it wouldnt finish check out. I did 2 orders on apple.com on my desktop smooth as silk. I was all set by like 3:12am.
 
only downside of app was the inability to add an additional line. this is were I got hung up. it works great for upgrades.

I was planning on putting the line for myself on an old 3g, but figured it would be just as easy as addign a line. well that was a big epic fail haha..

I still got my line added via premier site, but took 1st hour to get it

Ah ok. Ohwell it wasn't too bad ordering from Apple site. Got in my order by 12:18 pacific. Alot better then last year when site kept going down and I ended up going to bed and then waking up at 7 and finally getting my order in for the 4S.
 
Opposite for me. I tried the App from 8:02 for about 5 or 6 minutes, it kept failing at payment (timeout). I logged onto the Apple site from my phone and it worked on my 2nd attempt, all done by 8:10.

I did have a lot more success with the Apple Store App last year for the 4S, though.
 
Had to clear my DNS cache on my Mac and use a different browser, but I did get through and place an order after a few minutes. Was a bit worrying, ha!

I heard from others that the Apple Store App was the way to go. Unexpected!
 
The Apple Store app is terrible. No one should ever use it for pre-orders. It is slow and unresponsive and will likely cost you a good pre-order spot.

I ordered mine via my iPad through the app right at 1:00am mountain time (12:00 pacific). I had the order completed in less than 30 seconds. My email confirmation shows a received time stamp of 1:00am even.

Yes...it just works.

I ordered via the app as well. took less than 30s. But I wasted some time trying to figure out how to change the shipping address while ordering :(

They will most likely hold at the facility like they did for the 4s last year. mine was scheduled for the Wednesday and it ended up coming the Friday like everyone else. I did get my 4 2 days before though....hmm he might be on to something.
 
I got mine from the app store too, thanks to a tip on forums last night, glad I checked the forums during the craziness last night with ATT and Apple's site.

Thanks random person who suggested the app. :)
