Apple today updated its Apple Store app with support for Siri Shortcuts, which the company says can be used to make pre-ordering the upcoming iPhone XR with the iPhone Upgrade Program faster than ever.

When getting pre-approved for an iPhone XR, iPhone Upgrade Program members will see a new "Add to Siri" button that can be used to record a custom phrase like "pre-order my iPhone."

Once pre-orders are available on October 19, customers can say the custom-made phrase and Siri will pull up their pre-approvals in the Apple Store app, allowing for quick order completion.

Other than the Siri Shortcut outlined by Apple, there do not appear to be other Apple Store Shortcut options available at this time. Full release notes for the update are below:
What's New
iPhone Upgrade Program members can now use Siri Shortcuts for an even faster way to complete their iPhone XR pre-order on 10.19. Look for the 'Add to Siri' button while getting pre-approved, and record your own voice command, like "pre-order my iPhone." Say your phrase when pre-order begins, and let Siri pull up your pre-approval in the Apple Store app so you can quickly complete your order.
The Apple Store app can be downloaded from the App Store for free. [Direct Link]

I thought Siri shortcuts are supposed to be reusable. How often will this be useful? At most once a year?

Um, no, I'm not going to use this for my next preorder. I'd go hoarse repeatedly asking Siri to preorder my device while waiting until the preorder queue finally lets me into the Apple Store around 7 minutes after midnight.

I've already got a much quicker system in place. It involves a whole lot of tapping, force quitting, and reloading. The device is already favorited before the store goes down. That's the only way to get anything on launch.

Unless I’m missing something the big limitation I’m finding with shortcuts is exactly this; it’s how siloed to a particular action they are. It has to be to exactly that thing all the time? Is that right? I might be missing something

That doesn't seem right... you can insert variables and prompts for more info into shortcuts.

I haven't actually used shortcuts because there's not enough ways to trigger them. I wish you could just trigger them on a schedule... like, attaching them to calendar events would be cool.

Also if I could just triple tap the home button to trigger them (currently you can assign triple tap to any accessibility toggle.)

“Siri, please preorder my iPhone xr”

“Ok I’ll use your iPhone to order 700 burgers”

Yeah I’ll stick to saving orders in the favourites in the store app. Thanks.

I’m still shocked that even if you pay for the most expensive iPhone you do not get cool color choices like the cheaper versions. Why is it some weird faux-gold color? Why not have all the colors available? I want the iPhone XS Max in those cool colors.

Because these different color options, like the 5C, looks like something from a candy store.

Apple doesn't to associate that notion with their premium flagship device.

Purchasing a 1000+ dolllar Phone with Siri. What could go wrong...

This is going to be a great hit! Can you imagine the bragging rights with the few friends you have left "Hey, I just let my virtual assistant Siri order my next iPhone. How great am I?"

Wouldn't this Siri Shortcut only be used once.. per year... or two? How is this a useful shortcut? I could understand maybe a shortcut for ordering watch bands or cables but a smartphone????

I love the idea, but if trying to get one on launch night, don't throw Siri's occasional issues into the mix - Apple still isn't offering Factory Unlocked (unlike the Xs's) for pre-order so I'm guessing supplies will be noticeably more constrained (for the good colors of course) than the $1k's. It'll be interesting to see how the sales are for this.
