Apple today updated its Apple Store app for iOS with a minor but important change, adding the ability to make purchases using an Apple Store Gift Card. Prior to today's update, customers who wanted to purchase an iOS device or an accessory using an Apple Store gift card had to use the Apple website.

The app previously had no way to enter a gift card at checkout, so the only available option was to use a credit or debit card. Following the update to version 3.4, users can tap "Buy with other payment options," which has a new section for entering a gift card.

Gift cards can be scanned with the camera on an iPhone or iPad or imported from the Passbook app, with the gift card total then applied to the order total.
What's New in Version 3.4

You can now make purchases with an Apple Store Gift Card. Use the built-in Camera to scan new Gift Cards or import existing Gift Cards from Passbook.
The Apple Store app can be downloaded from the App Store for free. [Direct Link]

Nice but I want it the other way around - make purchases in the Apple Store using iTunes gift cards.

It'll never happen. Or in some hypothetical scenario where it did, we can kiss all those sweet retailer iTunes gift card sales of 70-80 cents on the dollar goodbye.

Does those Apple staff are German? No, right?

Then why they still take extraordinary long time to implement a new thing while product quality is decreasing over time?

Because in Germany, the same engineers work on app gift card implementation and hardware quality checks.

I wish they'd concentrated on making the font 0.02% thinner and rounding the corners off more instead. Also the shade of blue could have been imperceptibly lightened, and the Apple Privacy Policy could have been given slightly less prominence, instead of this completely boring functional change that is only useful to people. Considering switching to Android now.

JOKING!

I hate to break the news to you guys, but Apple Gift Store Cards are only redeemable for purchase of Apple products in their retail stores or in their on line portaland are a completely different product then iTunes gift cards.

ITunes gift cards are redeemable in iTunes & App store only. They are not interchangeable.

So much for your incorrect "hypothetical scenario' :)

My gift card doesn't seem to scan, how am I going to use it in the App, anyone any idea?
