What actually slows the pre ordering process is the carriers servers, apple has to check with them before placing the order. Then you have everybody preordering on the carriers website.

Hopefully that means things will go smoothly here in Canada where Apple only sells unlocked phones online.

Yes but they've known for a while about per order date. It should be updated week in advance. This happens every yr. like clockwork.
