This is very weird. Yesterday many stores listed special hours for today (Sunday) on their pages at apple.com. Some here in Northern Virginia were closed today, some were open with special hours. Okay, no problem, my local store is closed, but the new one in Reston said 10-6. I'll go there to pick up an iPad.

However, this AM, all the special hours for stores in NoVa have disappeared. Okay, perhaps Reston decided after yesterday to go back to normal hours (open at 11). But Fair Oaks Mall has lost its 'closed', which is really weird. I doubt they changed and decided to open after all.

I checked other locations, like New York City, and 5th Avenue (for example) still has its 'iPad weekend hours'. So, I'm really confused here in why all these would disappear overnight.

Any suggestions? I'll call Reston at 10 to see what's up (and to verify they have stock, which I bet they do), but still hard to figure what's going on.

Well,, it's 10 ET, so I called both my local stores. Reston isn't open, so I'll try at 11. Fair Oaks has a voice mail greeting from before 4/3 and nothing about being closed today. Weird.

Supply was higher than expected so special hours canceled? Okay, makes sense for Reston. But, if Fair Oaks was supposed to be closed, I can't see changing people's Easter day off on no notice. :)

I'll post what I find. Just seems strange for an operation that's usually so organized!

...and their auto-attendant recording on the phone doesn't say anything except they are open at noon on Sundays.

I'll report back once more if they do turn out to be open.

Interesting... I'm wondering if the 'auto return to post holiday sked' for the website was set to the wrong day? Doesn't explain NYC but they have a special schedule anyway...

Called both local stores after 11, when they should be open normally. No answer/same voice mail greeting at Fair Oaks. Reston said they had iPads (didn't really respond to my 'a lot?' question... :) ) and would be open 12-5, which is what their page listed as special hours when they were there yesterday.

So, I suspect somebody goofed on the website and set the takedown for the special weekend hours to 12:00 4/4 and thought that meant Sunday night and not morning. (Programmer tip: never use 12:00 midnight. Use 12:01 or 11:59. :) )

Bottom line: call your store before you go today!

For anyone that wants to know how stores are doing today:

The relatively new store in Reston, Virginia, had a line for 'iPad purchases'. Everyone else could go right in. I got there around 12:30 ET, was about fifth in line, and had to wait twenty minutes. Turned out the delay was because most people were having theirs set up for them. We may think it's trivial, but I think it's great Apple's throwing this in!

By the time I got in, there were about fifteen people in back of me. I was done in three minutes (64GB, Apple case, AppleCare).

Now, to see what you all are talking about.... :)
