I originally meant to post that we desperately need a website that reviews, categorizes, and ranks iphone apps and games, a la the old pocketgear (checking it out now, it seems to have lost some of those features). You used to be able to sort apps and games by category, and then by number of downloads, or average review score, or downloads in the past month. It also had featured apps, editor picks, and top 50. It was a great resource.

But the truth of it is, is that pocketgear had those functions in support of it's storefront for palm apps.
Now, the iTunes Store is the storefront. But besides some general reviews and questionable "top apps", we're sorely lacking on information, especially since we can't preview an app before buying.

I doubt someone would go to the trouble of building such an involved website, without the incentive of sales behind it. So with so many choices for similar apps (how many sudoku, solitaire, etc, in 1 day?), and no way to test before buying, Apple needs to step up and develop the app store with those functions.

On a PC or Mac, go into the App from iTunes store and scroll down and you will see ratings and reviews.
