Apple Store pickup question

I was able to use my moms upgrades to order a couple iphone 6. However I have never picked up from the apple store. I know picking up at att was a mess and they activate the phones and my moms phones lost service because obviously the iPhones activated, will the apple store allow me to activate them myself?

If it's a contract they will need to activate it. If it's sim only you can take the box and walk out if you wish.

I just need to handle it as if I ordered it and had it shipped. That way the account gets dinged for the upgrade but I just put in my sim and good to go without affecting the other users.
