From November 28 through December 8 this year, Apple says it will donate $1 to the life-saving organization The Global Fund for every purchase made with Apple Pay on Apple.com, in the Apple Store app, or at an Apple Store worldwide. Apple says it donation through this initiative will be limited to a maximum of $1 million.

The Global Fund aims to combat diseases such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria throughout the developing world. Apple says its donation to the organization will continue to "help fund critical health programs that save lives."

Apple has supported The Global Fund for 17 years through its partnership with the (RED) brand, co-founded by U2 singer Bono in 2006. Apple offers several products in a (PRODUCT)RED color, ranging from iPhones to Apple Watch bands, and a portion of the proceeds from every one of these products sold by Apple goes to The Global Fund.

December 1 is World AIDS Day, and Apple typically has a (PRODUCT)RED-related announcement and initiatives throughout the day.

Why don’t they just donate the million if they only donate $1 per transaction and it’s capped at a million?

They may very well end up doing so but part of Apple's goal here is to try to encourage purchases using Apple Pay. If there are one million qualifying transactions, Apple will donate $1 million but they're not willing to go above that (even if there are more than one million transactions) which is why there is a cap.

While AIDS did kill 630,000 people in 2022, and is still a worthwhile cause to support, why is so little being done about Tuberculosis? In 2022, 1,300,000 people died from Tuberculosis, despite there already being a cure available! That is twice as much as AIDS. These people are primarily in poor nations, and it's the second leading infectious killer after COVID-19.

This year, John and Hank Greene, along with the support of their massive community, helped push pharmaceutical companies to lower the cost of their TB treatments in many poor countries. But there is still more to be done. As John Greene states, "Tuberculosis is a disease of injustice." I encourage you all to donate to the fight against TB, AIDS, and more, by visiting Partners in Health https://www.pih.org/?form=Triple-Match-gt23-nd where they are currently triple matching donations. Partners In Health (PIH) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, EIN 04-3567502. Thank you!

The (red) program is incredible. I’m so glad to see this admiral work is still being done. Love love love red and will always shop and buy red. Also a beautiful color.

Too bad the bozo brains running the case department couldn’t make a Product Red Case for iPhone 15 Pro like every other recent iPhone launch ever

I dont support product red. There are SO many issues in our own country including homelessness, malnutrition (food deserts as they are called), opiate overdoses, etc, etc... Yet apple doesnt focus on any of those. (I do own a very, very significant amount of apple stock and I would rather the money not go to organizations outside our country so I do have a vested interest in this)

I will not be making any purchases during this time using apple pay. And if they ever changed the apple card permanently to a 'red' card (didnt know there was such a thing) I will cancel my card immediately.

Still no 15 pro (product)red
