So I feel the day is near when I am to buy a new 12" ibook. The question is that when I go to an apple store (the one located in oakridge for me) to buy a mac, do they have them at the store or do they order one for me to pick up later? I would hate to order one due to my many "traumatising" experiences with fed-ex, ups, etc.

if you want a stock configuration, you can walk out with one from the store. but if you want upgrades, like more ram, more disk capacity, different optical drive, then you'll have to order it from the website.

usually Apple stores will upgrade the RAM at the store if you want

i went to that oakridge apple store the other day. can't believe how small and dirty the store was.

I know how you feel.
I went to the Palo Alto Mini Store (stanford shopping ctre.) and it was just.. TINY and had so much dirt tracked into it!! It was weird and... ew.

I stood there, smiled to myself, because it made the Houston Galleria Apple store seem HUGE in comparison! :) (I hate you Apple Store The Woodlands! Double the size of my poor little Houston Galleria Apple Store...)

...but yea, you can pick up stock iBooks at any Apple store.
If you were up for the short drive, I'd pick it up at the Company store, just to be nerdtastic.
(iirc, they sell them there.)

...you mean at the cupertino outlet? the apple headquarters itself? and if i did that, would i get a better deal considering its being purchased from apple itself?

get it from the store, its real nice to walk out with it, that is of course if you want a standard config machine

Definitely go to the store to get it, although be prepared for them to sell you the new iBook PLUS a new iPod, am overpriced bag, some sortware and a bunch of other products that you fall in love with when you walk through the doors. Whenver I go to the Apple store I leave my credit card at home so I don't max it out on something new. It is much more satisfying to buy your computer and pick it up all in the same day though, waiting for it to come will kill you.

Apple HQ.

you wouldn't get a deal, but you'd be able to spend MORE money on shirts and stuff. :)

Also, it'd be so fantastically nerdtastic!

I was >_< that far from getting my dad to buy a mini! SO CLOSE!

Katie, you went to Apple HQ with your Dad and he
did not buy an Apple product? Booo!

I would have told security that your Dad was violating an important NDA.

After a few hours of intense interrogation you could explain that you meant

Neglecting Daughter's Advice :D

aaaahahah! I LOVE IT!

...we did get $98 worth of OTHER junk, though.

oh man, I WANNA GO BACK!!

*starts biking to cupertino*

Call up you're store and see what they can do for you in-store with regard to upgrades, etc. Then you'll get a better idea whether to order online or instore.
