Hi All,
I am due to take in a 2015 13" rMBP to a Apple Store in the UK for a Screen Coating Repair under their recall programme. The laptop works absolutely fine & has no issues at all apart the the screen coating issue.
However it does have some knocks/chips at 3 corners & a knock at one the top corners of the screen. The bottom cover has dent & a number of noticeable marks & scratches. These do not bother me as the laptop is now kept in a hard shell case & are not noticeable. (I believe they replace the whole screen assembly so the knock at the top screen corner should be taken care of by that?)
When making a booking to take it to the Apple Store for the Screen Repair, the Apple agent made it very clear that only the Screen Issue will be done free of charge & not any work due to accidental or liquid damage & that these are chargeable.
I have read some instances whereby customers take in a device to Apple for a specific repair & upon receiving it back, they find that Apple had replaced parts that were cosmetically damaged or had scratches (even if minor) & then had to face some rather hefty bills even though they were not informed beforehand as to what other parts might be replaced & what the costs would be - the customers were never asked for their consent or authorisation for this extra work.
Is it in Apples T&C's that they can replace cosmetic issues under what they might term "accidental damage" without beforehand informing the customer, getting their approval/authorisation & informing them of what the costs would be?
I ask as I really do not want to face a bill of many hundreds of pounds for something not related to the screen issue at hand & I have not authorised & can live with. Can I ask them that I do not want any chargeable changes made or the cosmetic damage replaced with new parts?
I have taken some photos at close up in macro mode to show the areas of damage on my rMBP would would be grateful if anyone upon viewing could advise me on if Apple would replace all the affected areas without my consent & how to ensure they do not?
Many Kind Thanks,
Bazzy!
