Just returned from the Apple Store in West Quay Southampton (UK).
I got to the Apple Store around 1430 to find a line of about 20 people waiting for the iPhone. I started chatting to one of the employees who told me they had LOADS of stock, but couldn't sell any as they couldn't access the O2 system to set up the contract. In fact, by 1430 they had only managed to sell 4 iPhones all day!
One guy who was in the process of being served had been there since 8am and it still hadn't gone through.
After about 15 minutes, the staff came along the queue to ask if anyone wanted to come back tomorrow as they weren't getting anywhere. They offered to reserve a phone for you until tomorrow - with no obligation - and said they will call me tomorrow to arrange a time to come in so people don't have to wait around.
I got them to reserve a 16Gb Black for me (they DID have all versions available)
The staff were great, and very friendly - really felt for them - they'd had a hell of a day
mistuk
