When you say original, what model? the 4? Apple will fix most things, the home button being the major fail in most IOS devices, but they are unlikely to do it for nothing.
That's worth fixing, even at a cost..In good condition it's going to be an Apple collectable one of these days..I'd fix it, charge to 40% and box it up. Unless you are using it of course..

Won't be worth much at all.... way to many made.
Most likely they will not do anything with it and I would bet they don't have any for OOW replacement. I walked in with a 3gs I hoped to replace and walked out with a 4 Which I assume means they have no 3gs white boxed. Not sure if they will "upgrade" and give you a 4 for OOW replacement but it's worth a shot.
