Apple Store Trade In and delivery/pick up?!

Hi all,

I have not see much guidance on this issue:

If I want to use the Apple Trade in offer to offset the price of the Iphone 6 MUST I wait in line on release day? (If so, I assume I can pre-order with the "pick up in store" option and do the trade there)

Or, can I simply have the phone shipped to my house and THEN go to an apple store when the lines die down to do the trade-in and get a price adjustment within 14 days?
