Apple Store vs. Verizon Store?

If I buy at the Apple store, can I still get the free 1GB upgrade to my data plan per phone, or is that a Verizon store only thing? Also, I would forgo the $200 trade in on my iPhone 4. I assume these things require a purchase at their store, not Apple?

I bought my wife and I's iPhone 6's at the Apple Store and we received the extra 1GB per phone promotion shortly after our phones were activated. It was automatically applied online.

I know Apple does a trade-in as well for old iPhones, not sure if it would match the $200 Verizon is offering. I thought I read you can bring in your old phones to Verizon after purchasing the new phone elsewhere, and they will still give you a gift card. I would call Verizon to be sure on that one though.
