Perhaps nowadays 'Aluminium and Glass City' might be better?

White City is near Shepherds Bush - the shop will almost certainly be in the Westfield shopping centre they're building opposite BBC Television Centre.

Hard to describe it as having a "bustling heart" though. There's the building site, the BBC, some pretty nasty industrial estate, the A40 and crime. That's about everything in White City...
