Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers around the world are now able to complete same-unit repairs for all four iPhone 14 models, instead of having to replace the entire device, according to an internal memo obtained by MacRumors.

The change came into effect last week, with Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers now able to order parts to complete iPhone 14 repairs in store. It is typical for parts to take a few weeks or months to become available for new Apple products.

Released in September, the standard iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are equipped with a removable back glass panel for easier repairs, making them the first models that can be opened from both the front and back sides since the iPhone 4S. The change does not extend to iPhone 14 Pro models, which can be opened from the front side only.

Apple Stores can replace the battery inside any iPhone 14 model for $99 in the U.S., up from $69 for previous models. Customers with AppleCare+ can get an iPhone battery replaced for free, but only if the battery retains less than 80% of its original capacity.

Apple's out-of-warranty service fees have also increased for select other iPhone 14 repairs. For example, in the U.S., Apple charges $379 to fix cracked glass on an iPhone 14 Pro Max's display, compared to $329 for the same repair on an iPhone 13 Pro Max. Apple's iPhone Repair and Service page outlines additional repair fees.

“Just enjoy your phone and charge it any way you want” is no longer sounding like sage advice with $99 replacement batteries

Interesting that the prices went up despite the repairs becoming easier, at least for non-pro models. Although the repair doesn't look any easier than an iPhone 8 to me, maybe two battery tabs versus four is easier for some. The aluminum immediately behind the display and all the internals on the reverse looks weird compared to older models... gotta have those adhesive tabs somewhere!

My iPhone X had a battery that was far easier to remove than this. In fact, when it was time to replace, the battery swelled and the phone opened itself!
What triggered the battery to swell? I’love had my iPhone X since spring 2018 and I have to knock on wood, no issues.

They have not seen what my Son is capable of when he "breaks" an iPhone. I would like to seem them repair a couple of his old ones as "Same-Device"

What happens if you have AppleCare+ and request an express exchange instead of going to an Apple Store? I used to take advantage of that to get new device after a while to get a replacement without any usage marks

Looks like with AppleCare + you get unlimited accidental damage protection. I feel like this same-device repair is targeted at people who are not tech-savvy and regular consumers.

It's still significantly cheaper than buying a new phone, so it probably holds true for most people.
My coworkers were talking about their phones yesterday, and how after around 2 years they NEED to be replaced cos they get slow /etc. Battery replacement wasn't even a consideration.

Because they're replacing 80% of the phone, not the glass. You're paying for a brand new phone except for the camera, battery and display.
$379 is for display…more than that for a rear system (back glass)…and they absolutely do not reuse your battery…

I don't get all the hype about mid-tier 14s being easier to repair.

It certainly doesn't seem that a single of the listed repair iPhone 14 prices are lower than for any of the previous mid-tiers.

Is it really just the fact that more kinds of damage can be fixed at all instead of having to buy a new iPhone if you didn't get AppleCare?

I distinctly remember nearly all of the "tear-down" videos mentioning that you should get the mid-tier 14 over 14 Pro if you want the most repairable iPhone 14.
