For a brief period following the release of new iPhone models, Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers must replace the entire device if a customer requires a repair, as individual parts are not immediately available.

Starting this week, parts are available for all four iPhone 15 models, allowing Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers to complete same-unit repairs for these devices, according to an internal memo obtained by MacRumors. This includes the back glass, battery, speakers, display, rear camera, and mid-frame.

A whole-unit replacement is still required for repairs involving the Taptic Engine or the main microphone on the iPhone 15 Pro or the iPhone 15 Pro Max, as those parts will not be available until a later time, according to the memo.

All four iPhone 15 models are equipped with removable back glass, allowing technicians to open the devices from both the front and back sides for repairs. This change results in significantly lower repair fees for iPhone 15 models with cracked back glass for customers without AppleCare+ compared to models without removable back glass. Apple first made this design change with the lower-end iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus last year.

In the U.S., Apple's battery replacement fee is set at $99 for all four iPhone 15 models, which is unchanged from the iPhone 14 series.

Usually, Pro features of the previous generation gets introduced in the entry level of the new generation... But this time, the removable back in the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus was also applied to the iPhone 15 series (Pro and non-Pro) although I think that it still cannot beat the iPhone 4 and 4s in this regard...

Is a month after the release of the new iPhone a bit late for parts availability or is it the usual time frame?

I'm not sure how you think it can't beat the iPhone 4 and 4S, considering that cracking the display on those devices meant an entire device swap at a higher price point. In addition, those iPhone models had no water-resistance rating at all.

Don't forget that not only do parts need to be available, but technicians also need to be trained on how to do the repair.

I was referring to how easy to remove the back cover of the iPhone 4 and 4s compared to the iPhone 15 series... I agree that for everything else, newer iPhones are better...

Well they have to attach the logic board to *something*, so it'll have to be the frame itself. As a result, yeah it makes the screen and back harder to take off, especially once you consider the water resistance seal on both sides.

I assume I can still do express repair with apple care+ to avoid this? I’d rather have a new iPhone down the line. That’s what I did recently for my battery replacement of my Apple Watch. Shiny new one without scratches

Well yes, you can always do express, however it doesn’t guarantee you a new phone, a month or two into release they will nearly all be refurbished and have at least minor scratches.

Nah I have done this multiple times and can confirm that every time I got a phone like new and without scratches, the Genius also told me that these phones are new and not refurbished, it just comes with a model number which starts with an "N", indicating it's a replacement unit.

If I avcidentally dropped and crashed the glass or the screen, I would still prefer to pay the higher deductible to get a new phone with a brand new battery, for you are not sure if the drop also damage some internal components

i just got my 15pro replaced last week, considering 15 has only been out for a month, no way the replacement is refurbished right?
