Hello everyone,
A big salute to the old Apple / old Mac community on these forums. My 17" Apple Studio Display (ADC), which I use with a Power Mac G4 (QuickSilver, 2001), has stopped working.
The monitor's panel has gone completely dark. It is seen by Mac OS X, it has functioning window management (monitor positioning, mirroring on/off, ...) and shows up in the monitors preference pane. The power button turns the G4 on and off, and the light works correctly, so does the display settings button and respective light. The expected control window also appears in System Preferences (with sofware brightness control), and the information in System Profiler looks normal (to me, screen capture attached).
Essentially, it's like the monitor is functioning perfectly, but there's no image on the LCD. I have tried multiple times to point flashlights at it, but nothing is visible, even in a fully dark room. Thus I believe it is not a backlight issue, or better, not just a backlight issue.
I have opened it and unplugged and replugged every cable and connector inside, as well as leaving the Mac running for about 2 hours with the display plugged in, but nothing changed. The monitor was not used for longer than usual (months) before this happened, which is sure to be the cause.
The LCD panel inside of my Studio Display is a Samsung LTM170E4-P02. The LTM170E4-L01 was used in a Dell monitor (UltraSharp 1702FP), I could try finding one of those to get a replacement panel, but it is missing a connector the P02 inside my display has. I am attaching a photo comparing the two LCD panels which has the missing connector outlined.
The Power Mac has an NVIDIA GeForce2 MX (TwinView), the card's VGA output works correctly.
I am of course willing to troubleshoot components (like the boards). I'll be grateful if someone who has gone through this or a similar problem can advise me. Please, if someone has replaced their Apple display's LCD panel, I would also appreciate your input.
In order to test the Power Mac's ADC connector with a multimeter, according to this pinout (https://pinoutguide.com/Video/apple_adc_pinout.shtml), the outer wall of the connector is ground, correct?
Thanks,
1984power
