Amazon today has the Apple Studio Display for $1,294.99 during Prime Day, down from $1,599.00, which is a new all-time low price on the monitor. This is the standard glass version of the Studio Display with the tilt adjustable stand, and Amazon also has a few other models on sale as well.

You can get the standard glass model with the VESA Mount Adapter for $1,294.99, down from $1,599.00, while the tilt- and height-adjustable stand model is available for $1,699.99, down from $1,999.00. In regards to the VESA model, this is another new all-time low price on the display.

If you want to upgrade to the nano-texture glass option, Amazon also has this model of the Studio Display on sale. It's available for $1,594.99, down from $1,899.00, which is a second-best price on the Studio Display with nano-texture glass.

The Studio Display features a 27-inch 5K Retina display with a 5120 x 2880 resolution and up to 600 nits of brightness. Apple says that the standard display is engineered for "extremely low reflectivity," but for rooms where there is a lot of glare, Apple suggests the nano-texture glass option with even less reflectivity.

iMac 27" with this same screen, camera, speakers, etc AND a whole Mac inside too... WITH a keyboard and mouse included in the box could be had for below this price. You'd think that after subtracting the Mac, keyboard and mouse, the price would be better than iMac 27" vs. "same great price" or higher.

But shareholders certainly appreciate the ready acceptance- and even DEFENSE- of dramatically cutting the costs while keeping the price the same or higher "with stand options." 💰💰💰

You used to be able to get a whole iMac with this monitor for that price.
Well not really. The 5k iMac was $2,499

Edit: Ok, I’m checking now and they eventually lowered the price to $1,799. Even then though, you can get a Studio Display and Mac Mini for the same cost right now. And they had no choice lowering the price with Apple Silicon anticipated.

I like putting myself into Apple's hands with tech, and don't care if another manufacturer is doing something newer or better. I trust Apple to deliver to me what I need right now, and implement tech to the best of their abilities. That's the value for me.

That said, even with discounts, this monitor is still chronically, ridiculously expensive for what it is. It needs to be half the price. It raises interesting questions about Apple's pricing model when it comes to genuinely pro hardware. It seems somebody's decided high price, low volume is a way forward with things like the Mac Pro and, I guess, this. It's very odd considering Apple is a mass manufacturer.

For people spending a lot of time processing photographs in Lightroom or Photoshop, if you're picky about color and insist on consistency, there is no better display (unless you want to pay the $$$$ for the Pro Display XDR).

It certainly isn't for gamers or general computing. Sadly, many here will never take the time trying to understand the above and will complain till the cows come home.

Sadly, they aren't doing that ... and they haven't been for quite a while

In fact, they are using the blind trust of many customers that you are describing to take advantage of them and overcharge for basically everything

100% agree

Not if you're a photographer who uses Lightroom daily and is picky about color and consistency. It's an excellent alternative to the Pro Display XDR for many who don't want to spend $5K+.
It just sucks that it can’t do at least 75hz. Just because you’re looking at photos doesn’t mean you also aren’t using the rest of the computer - scrolling text, moving windows around etc.

Could you get one new for below this price?

Well, that's Apple. 🤷

I mean, it's not like the fact Apple has high prices is anything new. From day 1 they've charged a premium.

I do agree they've been pushing the price envelope recently, and really pushing people to the limit of what they can afford. As an example, I got the new M1 MBP a few years ago because I wanted top of the range, to replace my previous top of the range i7 from 2015. The price difference was quite substantial, even given inflation.

But in the same breath, again, that's Apple. It's what they do. In return we get a reasonable guarantee of quality, and they sweat the details. If nothing else, I love the applied intelligence you get with Apple stuff. Do they always get it right? No. But they do most of the time.

On sale, like this one is on sale. The efforts to compare MSRP to a sale price is just redirection/defense. Anyone should see through that. Many people know what they paid for their iMac 27" new. People should be able to dig up their receipts if they can't recall.

It wasn't that long ago that ASD with a whole Mac inside and keyboard & mouse were sold by Apple. In their Geniu$, Apple subtracted the Mac + Keyboard + Mouse, named what was left something else but "failed" to subtract anything from the price. And not only did people gobble it up but also defended the "same great price." Shareholders certainly appreciate it when buyers spin anything to rationalize fattening margin.

It's accelerated and now gotten out of control

It honestly feels they are making many decisions simply to drive upsells in an almost nakedly obvious way now

This feels like the only lever Tim knows how to pull to keep "number going up"
