Apologies for the screenshot in Italian, I think you can quickly get the gist:

in early March the Apple Studio Display (2022) disappeared from Amazon.it. A couple of weeks later a new product labeled ASD (2025) appeared. The previous model was also slightly discounted, while this one is listed at full price in all its variants.

Does anyone know if any very minor update has happened? My wish is for the power supply, since I want to purchase a second and my main issue with the one I already have is its high pitched noise when I charge my electric car.

Thank you.

Wow interesting observation. It's above my pay grade to understand how that might be assessed. I'd note though that in the Dell 6K thread there is currently an exchange going on where people are trying to figure out if they have the latest or prior version of the otherwise same monitor. Maybe the tools they use to do that will help you assess?

Amazon lists the ASD in the US without any year designation, but oddly enough is #1 New Release in Studio Audio Monitors (!). Can't imagine what their idea of "new release" is about unless there actually is something different than the original, hmm... extra crispy? Unscented?

Unfortunately that would require me to purchase a new display first hehe

If it was a new panel, they'd sell it as a new official model, so chances are the differences are minor, or strictly paper differences.

In any case, I'd definitely not pick an ASD these days. There are much better options out there, unless you like to inhale Apple logos.

Yeah that's why I was wondering if there is a minor fix not related to the panel, such as the power supply fix.

And honestly I hate to spend that kind of money on a 10yr old panel, but it works for me, unlike anything else I've tried.

Let me add that I sincerely hope for the OP's wish that the ASD being sold now has stopped whining due to interference of any form or fashion. I have to say that mine (bought a few weeks ago) doesn't whine as far as I can tell, but there may be less EMI around here although I am thinking about getting an EV so that may change?

Thank you. This issue is incredibly frustrating for a 1800€ display.

and unless you like eye strain, good design, incredible build quality, doesn’t squeak every time you touch it, works seamlessly with any modern Apple computer, maintains its resale value and simply works great.

Not being affordable is about the only reason I can think of not to get one.

Oh, and I don’t give a cra* whose logo is on any of my stuff.

According to MacRumors Roundups for the Studio Display, there is a rumor that there may be a new one coming, perhaps this summer or next.

Apple is rumored to be working on a new version of the Studio Display with the same 27-inch screen size. It could be upgraded to mini-LED technology instead of LCD, which would bring improved contrast and HDR, increased brightness, and better color accuracy.

Apple is said to be planning to unveil the new Studio Display alongside 2026 Macs equipped with a next-generation M5 chip.

Apple is also working on some kind of display that's codenamed J527, but it is not clear what it might be. It could be a second-generation Studio Display in another size, or a second-generation Pro Display XDR.

There have been rumors that Apple is working on 90Hz display technology that could possibly be included in a future version of the Studio Display, allowing for smoother videos and text when scrolling.
I'm considering getting a couple of Studio Displays but I'll wait to see if this rumor pans out or not first.

Also being an owner of one of the original LG 5K's as well, I can attest. I held off on buying the Apple version of "basically the same monitor" because I saw it as buying a slightly updated version of what I already had, but at a higher price.

I wish I had done it sooner. It's a better product all around. The mistake people make in evaluating it is only looking at one piece of it. The QC on the panels is a little better and the brightness is about 10% brighter. But keep going and you'll see it's 10% better in a bunch of other areas too. That all adds up and it ends up being a surprisingly much better product overall that's hard to understand until you've actually owned both.

That said, for anyone on a budget the other options are indeed a better recommendation, but it's wrong to say those are really the same product only cheaper.

However, one thing I can't endorse is that it doesn't have flawless integration with MacOS. I've long had issues sleep-wake issues with all of my Apple Displays going back forever. The LG 5K was no exception and the ACD unfortunately isn't either.

yes I'm on the fence of getting my second one, but trying to hold on a little more to see if more solid rumors come out!

If there was a good sale price on the ASD right now, I would likely pop for one. I want vertical height, but $500? I mean that is simply a slap in the face no matter how one spins it.

Mine made in late 2024 doesn’t whine either. I do have an LED lamp that dims near it and the light itself whines but not the display, it’s a cheap light so I didn’t expect much out of it.

Both connected to a Sine Wave UPS, which might be an option if they’re experiencing noise caused by dirty input power.

I look forward to an update this year if one happens, either to the XDR or this. If one isn’t out with the M5 MBP or Mac Pro I’ll probably just cave and get a second ASD, I love the antiglare it’s truly wonderful to be able to work in a bright room with a ton of natural light.

Thank you.

I started using a tilt only nano-texture Apple Studio Display in late March 2025 that I purchased in January (it took a while to get a BTO MacBook Pro probably because Apple was cranking out MacBook Air units). Immediately upon setup, the Studio Display was acting wonky but then an updater popped up. After the update, it has worked flawlessly.

I upgraded from a 2017 5K iMac. The Studio Display is much better. Text looks like it’s on paper. An especially good website for testing is Yahoo Finance – the design team there does great work with typography. I don’t know how much of the superior quality stems from nano-texture, the age of my iMac, an undisclosed better panel per your post, or all of the above but my expectations have been exceeded.

I hope to post a more in-depth review as I feel the Studio Display has been unfairly maligned by influencers. I myself was psyoped a little though not enough to dissuade me from making the purchase. I don’t think a comparable display exists on the market if you care about build quality.

Between the build quality, brightness and crystal clear text (and the decent speakers and web cam), I don't think there is a better consumer display on the market at ANY price. I just wish they had a 32" model that wasn't the XDR. I have two now, and planning on replacing a my 34" Ultrawide 5k/2k LG with a third Studio Display. The difference is staggeringly noticeable to my (admittedly) aging eyes.

The price is more than I WANT to spend, but it's ultimately worth it, in my opinion.

My exact thoughts MacGizmo! By coincidence, I will also be buying a 3rd to replace my iMac 2020, which now sits between to Studio Displays... when the time comes... Maybe by then a new improved ASD will be available, but either way, I'll be getting one more.

The sad problem is, much like other Apple products, you get hooked on just how good they are and don't notice it until you try to replace it with a 3rd-party "equivalent". You tend to learn quickly that it's nearly impossible to match Apple's product spec-for-spec and it always comes down to just price.

A few hundred bucks more for Apple's products is just so much cheaper than regret!

I keep thinking that it would be nice to have an ultrawide display -- lots of space with no bezels cutting through one's workspace. Then I look at brightness and text quality, and change my mind again.
