Hey All,

Not sure where else to ask this honestly. I currently have a M1 Pro MBP connected to a dock (this one) that goes to my monitors; with keyboard and mouse and such all to the dock as well.

I am looking to potentially swap out to 1 single display and get an Apple Studio Display. The dock only supports 4k, so i do not want to run the studio display through it. This may be a dumb question but could i go MBP to studio display directly; and also the dock to studio display (and the dock thereby being used pretty much just as a hub, with no computer attached to it)? Or would i need a straight up USB hub connect to the studio display to connect my stuff. I know the dock is way overkill to be used just as a USB hub but I already have it, and it sits nice and clean on my desk if able to use as just a hub.

That's a certified Thunderbolt 4 dock, so can only connect to a TB4 host (computer).
The ASD only has USB output ports.

You could try connecting the ASD to one of the dock's TB4 output ports, as its specs say 'supports two 4K monitors', and one 5K monitor is the same bandwidth as two 4K ones.
That may or may not work, but its easy to try.

The ASD would only have input no? its not outputting anything. But yeah, figured its a stretch but was hoping to use it as a USB hub and not even worry about the thunderbolt stuff (so i can still use the SD card slot and USB ports for non thunderbolt devices);
