Sharing my recent experience. When my second generation HomePod went glitchy i tried reset a couple times and finally contacted Apple Support. An agent name Patrick was knowledgeable and patient. He tried to get me through to a fresh pairing and ended up suggesting the sensor had gone bad. Living in a small town i was set up for repair kit package. When my device belatedly paired, sure enough i had an alert sensor #??? wasn’t recognized. So i did the send in and within a very quick time was informed my device was being replaced and given my new serial number. I got set up again a few hours ago. All good. Music Match, Airplay, timers, sync with App.

I thought I was having recurrence of problem with replacement but discovered I was having WiFi drops with my Ubiquiti Alien router. A protracted Ubiquiti help line chat resolved that. Revised router settings.
