If Apple don't already have new iBooks in the pipeline for the US back-to-school then I think it's too late. I'm guess here but I'd think updating a line would take a few months to implement.
 
Apple will probably waste millions on advertising, when they could simply
give a Rev A 17" iMac to every Starbucks and let people try Mac OS X hands on.

Then to wake up corporate USA, they could give/loan a PowerBook to the top
500 CITO's in the country for a complimentary one year test drive.
 
changing the RAM or HD or even slightly increasing the processor speed wouldn't take that long (and a price cut on the current models would take even less time)
though i doubt you'll be successful in getting apple to do anything-think an ibook revision is just around the corner
