Apple's Beats by Dre brand today announced Powerbeats Pro in a new colorway that's being released as part of a collaboration with FaZe Clan.

FaZe Clan is a professional esports organization and its merchandise is largely red and black, so Apple has designed red and black Powerbeats Pro in the pattern that FaZe Clan often uses.

According to a tweet from the Beats by Dre Twitter account, the FaZe Clan Powerbeats Pro will be limited edition and will be sold through NTWRK, an app that allows customers to shop limited edition sneaker and streetwear drops. The FaZe Clan Powerbeats Pro will be available on March 22.

Apple previously teamed up with FaZe Clan for the launch of the Powerbeats Pro in spring colors in May 2020. Beats by Dre used a drone to send the Powerbeats Pro to members of the FaZe Clan.

While it looks neat this is sounds like bad news as many of us were hoping an update was planned for the March/April event along side the updated AirPods. Since 2021 and Powerbeats still don't support usb-c. Doubt they would do this color way if a new version was coming out in a month. Too bad.

Would like to see an update next year. Wireless charging and a smaller case.

Lol. FaZe, that's a name I haven't heard in a LONG time. I feel old, that's like some old school Machinima SeaNanners COD MW2 YouTube stuff from back in the day. I remember their old school green and black logo before Machinima videos and 480P "montages" and then I'd be in a MW2 lobby and everyone would have their clan tag as FaZe and there was always some guy yelling "prove it, you're all posers, you're not in the clan" Then someone would shout out to SandyRavage nuking those n00bs with booster justice videos.

...sorry I just am more surprised that this group has stayed around 15 years later.

Edit: holy crap, they have 5.3 million twitter followers. Wow.

Oh they're bigger than ever, in pretty much every E-sport game

Okay but dump questions, what's the corporate governance here? Is it the same 12 year olds that were playing in 2006 and they're all like 35 now or is it like a legitimate operation owned by like EA or some hedge fund? I would assume E-sports fancies the younger and faster players than old guys like me.

EDIT: Looking at their LinkedIn page, they do have adults running the show now - https://www.linkedin.com/company/faze-clan/people/ so that's good to see. I am always more interested in how these groups of teens that are just good at gaming turn into millionaires and you really need direction and some sort of mature adult to get you there. Zuckerberg couldn't have built Facebook w/o the support of Thiel or Andreessen guiding him through all of that, coaching, guiding and maintaining his 51% share as founder while growing the company and not screwing it up. There are a lot of smart entrepreneurs, super talented that on their own, just squander it.

It's good they turned it into something huge.

I personally still play video games but I just don't follow video game culture. Sorry for my ignorance.

Yeah, they're a legitimate corporation now. Like you, I still game but don't follow the scene. I also didn't realize how massive they've gotten. Tournament money being what it is now, I think the "business of gaming" was an inevitable outcome for them.

An eSports team... despite the fact that Mac gaming is in such a dire position these days?
