Hi everyone, I am experiencing an issue with a second-hand 2011 Apple Thunderbolt Display (not to be confused with the LED cinema display) I bought some months ago on the internet marketplace. It is working perfectly, it has no burned pixels, no scratches nor dents but it emits a clicking noise (short and random) that seems coming from the center of the screen, I think it is something inside the monitor that emits it. It can be heard especially when I turn up the volume or when I increase the brightness of the screen. Thus, when I turn off my Mac mini, so the display turns off also it can also be heard for a while. I don't know what's the nature of this noise and what triggers it. I read online that some of these monitors have had an issue with the power supply. Now, before considering to buy a new power supply online and change it, or before let it to be changed by the nearest shop I would like to know your opinions.

PS: Firmware is up to date.

Thank you very much!

I'm having a similar issue with an a1316 (the 27" led cinema display) I'm having an issue that sounds just like yours. I've done some research and it looks like it has to do with the power supply. I'm looking at getting a replacement one on ebay for about $70 and trying to replace it myself. I'll let you know how it goes.

Hi Taylor. Thank you for your feedback. I think you are on the right path. I cannot be 100% sure but accordingly to all I have read online I would say that the issue comes 99% from the power supply, so chance are good. I have a different model a1407 but the components should be the same. Please let me know how it goes! I want to renew this beautiful display!

Thus, before replacing the power supply you could try to follow the steps HERE. Btw I believe the hardware is the issue. I think a good idea would also be to replace the mag safe connector with a standalone Thunderbolt cable.

I replaced the power supply board, but it eventually stopped working again. These things are nice if you can get them to work.

I partially solved using a standalone thunderbolt cable. Now it's making less noise.
