Hi! I own a Sony VX2000 camcorder and I am trying to transfer my clips. I bought the Apple Thunderbolt to Firewire but the side you connect with the Apple adaptor does not fit at all. I guess it's only for firewire 800

I tried searching online but I cannot find the correct adaptor, also I don't want to order the wrong item as well. Is there an adapter I can connect my firewire cable to my imac? So far I think it might be this. Is this the correct wire? https://www.amazon.com/Black-IEEE-1394-Firewire-Cable/dp/B00698QY48

Thanks in advance!

That is most likely the correct cable. The smaller 4-pin connector was common in video cameras.

That cable should connect your camera to a FW800 port. The Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire adapter has a FW800 connector on it, so you‘re good there.

However, what kind of a Mac are you connecting this to? Be aware that the Apple TB-to-FW adapter has a Thunderbolt 2 connector on it, meaning if you’re connecting it to a USB-C-based Mac, you’ll need an Apple Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 adapter.

If you have an older TB1 or TB2-based Mac, you’re good to go.

Xraydoc has it right -- if your current Mac has tbolt3, then you need TWO adapters, daisy-chained:
tbolt3 Mac --> tbolt3-to-tbolt2 --> tbolt2-to-firewire --> camcorder.
