In a social media post today, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that Apple will be making a donation of an undisclosed amount towards Hurricane Melissa relief efforts.

"Our hearts go out to all of those impacted by the destruction of Hurricane Melissa," said Cook. "Apple will be making a donation to help with relief efforts on the ground."

Hurricane Melissa has caused catastrophic damage, flooding, and loss of life in several Caribbean countries this week, including Jamaica, Cuba, and Haiti.

Apple has donated to the Red Cross for hurricane relief efforts in the past.

Does Apple have a hurricane relief charity?
Not as far as I know they don't but typically in situations such as this - hurricanes, earthquakes and the like, Apple will set up somthing with say the Red Cross/Red Crescent that people can donate to. It's usually about $1,000,000 USD

Not sure why the tax aspect has any relevance to the discussion. The fact the Apple and other companies donated is what is relevant.

Nor do I tbh.

When these things happen Apple is usually in a "Damned if you, damned if you don't" type situation where some say Apple should be donating more just based on their market value. However if Apple did nothing you'd get people howling to the wind that they're the largest company in the world and yet they're not doing anything to help. It's a bit sad honestly.

I think it’s important to remind people that sometimes, seemingly noble endeavors having sinister motives. I applaud the money being used to provide relief to people desperately in need, but it’s naive to think these things are just out of pure goodness. Double edged sword, as you say.
