It's funny how Sony or anyone else for that matter thinks they can get away with cheap marketing.
According to ATAT, Apple lost a hockey game to Sun by a score of 1-7. In hockey, that is a stomp. I don't think they're ready to take on Sony.

True, and it will only take a few frustrated users to realize that the Sony players WILL NOT play Mp3s.
In the Register it said that the conversion to Sony's ATRAC3 format would be an on-the-fly affair as songs were moved to the device. Customers who haven't read the fine print won't even see or notice the transcoding (except possibly in the loss of quality it may cause).
So even though the new Walkmans don't technically play MP3's, people will still be able to transfer over their libraries.
