Following the opening of a new retail location in Melbourne last month, Apple is set to open another Australian Apple Store on May 25, this time in Adelaide.

The Adelaide Apple Store will be Apple's 20th retail location in Australia, and it is located at Rundle Place, a four-story shopping center that houses more than 70 stores. Adelaide is Australia's 5th largest city and the new Apple Store will be the first in the state of South Australia.

At store openings, Apple typically hands out commemorative T-shirts to the first 1,000 customers to visit. The store is set to open at 10 a.m. this Saturday, and Apple has already begun accepting reservations for workshops and Genius bar appointments.

20th location in Australia? That seems like an awful lot. Good to know our Aussie friends are such big APPLE fans...:D

Thats about 1 store per 1.1 million people. In the US its about 1 store per 1.2 million people. Given how large Australia is but with a relatively small population, I would have though there might be even more in Australia.

Adelaide gets a store and Brisbane CBD does not? No justice I tell you.
/rant over.

Another store is always a good thing I guess. At least our southern friends can buy Apple gear in an official Apple store now.

I'll be there, that's for sure, been waiting SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO *breath* OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO long for this... :D

About bloody time, but, I do hope that you can still take your bigger gear to Mac Alert for warranty repairs, getting the 27" iMac into the heart of the city would be a right royal pain.
MacAlert would suit me also, I'm up for a new iMac soon and hope MacAlert does not feel too much pressure
Parking at MacAlert is only slightly better ;)
Regards,
Gary

Im really surprised by this, as Adelaide only has 1.2 million people (2011), and I do remember there were squabbles about the frontage Apple required for their store and various heritage issues, but I think this was before the announcement of planning.

Then there was this beforehand - http://www.theaustralian.com.au/new...ouncement-a-hoax/story-e6frg6n6-1226601512928 and this: http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2012/04/south-australia-rejects-plans-for-rundle-place-apple-store/ so this makes me ponder what negotiations and how much money was offered to get this going. And oddly enough the Official Apple Retail Store site does not show Adelaide yet - http://www.apple.com/au/retail/, so currently you have to go to http://www.apple.com/au/retail/rundleplace

Still not a single Apple Store in NZ.

Its NZ, enough said :) however there are 4.4 Million people in NZ (2011) so who knows.

Ummm... Perth has 1.7 million and 2 stores, Brisbane has 2.1 million and 3 stores, so why is it surprising?

Regarding the planning fiasco: Adelaide's planning approval process has been too conservative for the longest time, it is a very conservative place really. There's not very much of heritage value left in the Rundle Mall, it's nearly all been gutted and overhauled along the way, since the 70's. The planning objection was because the initial plans wanted a glass frontage from ground to ceiling in the Apple style and the city planners wanted verandahs.

It's only the drop down menu on that page that hasn't got Adelaide listed yet. If you go to the right of that page and click on "Complete Store List" for Australia, it's listed.

Same - hometown.
We've been waiting for this for too long. I'll be lining up!
The only sad aspect to the opening is that I gather it will mean the end to most of the business for the remaining independent Authorised Resellers in SA (Mac Centre [previously an AppleCentre], NextByte).

YAY !

I'd really like to see Apple Stores in every Australian State & Territory.
Couldn't believe how long it took to get one in Canberra.
A store in every major city would be even better, of course.

so when's everyone going to start lining up, 'cause I don't want to line up from Friday, but I want a T-Shirt

Not one of those Brisbane stores is anywhere near the Brisbane CBD. I don't know why Apple didn't just put one in the CBD.

Without disclosing too much, I don't know what the market will look like for the Authorised Reseller after the Apple Store opening, but based on what I have heard from the various rumour mills, online communities and what Apple has done with previous store openings, I suspect Apple will be placing a significant amount of pressure on dealers within the Adelaide CBD and surrounding areas, especially when it comes to stock availability, repair pricing and turnarounds.

If it's anything like Perth, it simply killed the Authorised reseller business there.

As far as 'only being 1.1 Million people'. It's as much about real service. Who wants to pay $50 + potential replacement cost, to have an iPhone shipped out from Apple as a warranty job, or wait 10 days to have yours evaluated and replaced? The eastern states have had it good. Fair enough they have larger numbers but it's about service too.

I'm lining up friday. Not really.. the only weekend I will be out of town. Damn it!
