All of the iPhone 17 models coming later this year will feature two display upgrades, according to information shared by Digital Chat Station, an account with more than three million followers on Chinese social media platform Weibo.

First, the account said that the entire iPhone 17 series will feature thinner bezels. Apple says the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max feature the thinnest bezels around the screen of any product it has ever released, and those ultra-thin bezels should now expand from the Pro models to the lower-end iPhone 17 and "iPhone 17 Air" models.

Second, the account said that the iPhone 17 models will feature a new Dynamic Island user interface, but they did not elaborate. It may be that, on the software side, iOS 26 introduces a redesigned Dynamic Island exclusively on all iPhone 17 models. On the hardware side, a smaller Dynamic Island cutout has been rumored, but rumors have conflicted about whether it will debut on the iPhone 17 models this year or on the iPhone 18 models next year.

Digital Chat Station has accurately leaked some information regarding future Apple products in the past, but these are still just rumors for the time being.

Apple will unveil the iPhone 17 series in September, so we will learn more about these rumored changes and more in less than two months from now.

I remember last year they all said Apple would use a newer panel that's brighter, that didn't happen and it was worse than the 15 Pros.

The Pixels hit 3000 nits, and yes it's noticeable side by side as I use both.

Thinner bezels have just become a gimmick for apple because they won't upgrade the panels.

The display size of the standard iPhone 17 is expected to grow from 6.1'' to 6.3'' and the thinner bezels may help keeping the overall footprint very much the same.

How about they fix the problem with my 15 Pro Max where when I pull it out of my pocket it is frozen on the Lock Screen and will not respond to taps or swipes.

If I put it back into my pocket and very carefully pull it out again, then it starts working.

I'm pretty sure this is because the bezels are too thin and my finger overlaps the bezel when I pull the phone out of my pocket.

I will say like before wwdc (I said idc about UI) now I say «I don’t care about design» Please focus on features, camera and more Apple !!

Don't most users have cases that cover part of the bezel? The case protects the phone when dropped. I have a 13 so don't know what the width is now, but for those of us who need a case, a bezel of some width (1 or 2mm?) is needed. At least until a truly unbreakable and unscratchable glass is used. Although we seem pretty close to unscratchable. I haven't used a cover for the last couple of phone and no noticeable scratches.

Good to see that the non Pro models are getting these 'features'. The 120Hz display on the non Pro models itself will be huge upgrade. Waiting to see the improvements to dynamic island.
It’s long overdue that 120Hz was on all iPhones and iPads. It’s embarrassing at this point with Apple still keeping it locked to the “pro” devices. When you have cheap handhelds like the Switch 2 capable of 120Hz, let alone plenty of cheap Android phones.

120hz panels are not some expensive technology.

I'd really like to see a marginal upgrade to 144hz panels for the "Pro" phones now, especially for any "iPhone Fold" display.

Sadly, I don't think that is going to happen :(
Since Apple for some bizarre reason still refuse to use DC dimming rather than PWM on their allegedly “premium” panels, I highly doubt they even remotely care about folks who can’t stare at PWM screen for very long. And it is also highly likely that no one higher up suffers PWM, otherwise Apple would’ve used DC dimming a VERY LONG TIME ago.

The dynamic island will only change when face id components are slowly removed from the screen.

Apple will need to modify its software to accommodate any screen changes. When the front facing camera is removed, it would be logical for Apple to discontinue the island.

Maybe in future ios versions, Apple will overhaul its notifications to act like a virtual island.

I’d be so amused with the 17 base getting DI features which 16P is artificially locked out from. That would be peak Tim Cook Apple 😂

Why? I’m the biggest proponent of 120Hz and would not touch a device with 60Hz (even annoyed with my AWU for it), but 144Hz would not have any meaningful impact, even marginal, in any use case.

Slimmer bezels are a diminishing return, especially since a large number of users will be slapping protective chunky cases on the phone. My 16 Pro does indeed have impressively thin bezels but the case it's in, which is still relatively thin (the Nomad Modern Leather case) it doesn't look appreciably thinner than the 13 Pro it replaced.

I’m on 16 PM and never cannot see the nice thin bezels. I’m talking WITH a case on…that I’ve dropped and still no scratches or dents etc. to my phone.

I recommend this but in the forest green color (no extra MagSafe magnet mess on this particular case, either):

Depends on what you're doing on the device, but yes, it woukd be subtle. Nonetheless, it would offer something extra for Pro users without destroying battery life, which is nice for those of us that can percieve the difference.

how much thinner can these bezels get its already thin on the 16s
On the 16 pros yes, specifically the 16 pro max (boring but interesting tidbit the regular 16 pro bezel is not uniform all around but the 16 pro max is)

the regular 16 and 16 plus bezels are actually larger than the 15 pro/max so they (the regular 17, 17 “air”) can get thinner

All the usual upgrades—thinner bezels, brighter panels, bigger sensors—mean nothing if PWM is still an issue. Just offer a flagship with an LCD or a truly flicker-free display, and I’ll pay whatever it costs.
