So I did Apple trade in with my series 4 to get the series 6. Everything has been smooth until I got a note that my trade was on hold because find my iPhone was still on. My question; I logged into my find my app, went to the old watch and removed the device for my list, that’s what I was supposed to do right? I ask because In the instructions Apple gives they list the method I did first then when you scroll down it talks about erasing the device. So now I’m worried I removed my device instead of “erasing” it. I figured “unpairing” my watch would take care of everything but guess not!

Yee, unpairing it should remove it because it will prompt you to enter iCloud password. However, sometimes it just doesn’t unlink it and you’ll need to remove it from Find My instead like in your case. I’ve experienced it a few times and you can check Find My to make sure it removes it from your account.

When i unpaired mine it dropped off. I sent it in.
And my trade in was accepted.

I had problems when i traded in my watch. As Fridayxiii said, I unpaired it, removed the data plan, removed it from 'find my iPhone' Logged in to the cloud on my Mac and deleted it from there. When I traded it in to CEX and they tested it, it still asked for my Apple id which is bizarre. We ended up re-pairing to my phone and unpairing again.

I think the best way to do it might be to unpair from the phone to ensure a back up. Then re-pair and then in settings on the watch, to do a factory reset.
