A question about Apple Trade Up. Does anyone know, if when trading in an Apple Watch (in the UK), you must include the original strap? I know that Apple ask for the serial number of the Watch, so I am assuming that they know which strap was sold with the Watch?

Reason for asking - I purchased the original Apple Watch at launch in 2015 & bought a Stainless Steel with a Classic Buckle Black Leather Strap. I love the combination of the Stainless Steel with Classic Buckle in Black Leather & still think it is the smartest looking Watch/strap combo yet. However, after buying a Series 2 Nike Watch at launch, I have pretty much retired my original Watch. My intention was to use the Nike Watch purely for running (as a replacement to an old, basic Garmin Watch), but as the performance & battery life was far better on the Nike Watch than my original SS Watch, I have ended up wearing the Nike Watch almost all of the time

Anyway, I am now considering buying a Series 4 Watch in Stainless Steel (& using the Series 2 Nike purely for running). Hoping to trade in my original Watch, but as you can no longer buy the Classic Buckle Leather strap, I would prefer to trade in my original Watch with a spare Sport Band & keep the Classic strap to use with my Series 4

Has anyone traded in a Watch with an official strap which is ‘inferior’ to the strap sold with the Watch?

BTW - the mind boggles as to why Apple have stopped selling the Classic Buckle Leather strap

Thanks

I had this same question because the FAQ wasn’t very clear on the subject. I called Apple they said no you can keep the bands. The return kit will list the items required if you have doubts. But chargers, cables, bands generally don’t need to be returned on iOS devices.

I haven’t traded my series 0 in, but I did ask Apple this very question before I decided what to do. Yes, you have to trade in the strap that came with your watch. I have the milanese loop and love it, so I will not be buying any more Apple watches in the near future. As others have mentioned in other threads regarding the latest products, Apple are just getting greedy(er).

You do not need to return the strap, even if it was the strap you got with the original watch.

I was kind of turned off by the trade-in when it says some of the refund may be on an Apple gift card. Is that how they usually do it? Not that I wouldn't plan to shop at Apple more, but I'd prefer it going back to my original payment method.

It goes back to original payment card. Unless the refund is higher than the cost which would then be a gift card. They really need to word it better.

Bands makes sense since the Sports band is 3 parts and many will not have the 3ed part. Also bands like leather, nylon and links will have too much personal human grim in them.

I’m interested in this as if I could keep my Milanese loop band and get the trade in I’d probably bite on it!! At present the £195 trade in towards a new Milanese loop S4 is crazy!

But if I could buy the sports band and swap the straps that could work....

Has anyone actually done it and can confirm? All I can see is both answers on here at the moment

Apple trade in in a store is watch only.

It is not necessary to include; box, brick, charger or band.

Ask a specialist and I am sure they will tell you the bands should be considered toxic waste.

Same with phone cases.

Keep the band, trade in value will be based on the watch.
