Hi,

I’m looking into getting a new Apple TV as my Roku Ultra bit the dust.

I have a question though regarding remotes. My setup involves the streaming device sitting in a rack in the basement with all my AV equipment and it’s being fed to my TV 100ft away with a unidirectional Fiber Optic Cable.

My setup was controlled by a Harmony Elite remote. Seeing that is now discontinued would I still be able to use that and use IR commands on the new Apple TV? Also if that doesn’t work would I still be able to use my iPhone to control the Apple TV at that distance?

Thanks

I don't see why not. The 2022 ATV4K3 has IR.

As long as you are still in your wifi network, this should work.

Worth noting that the ATV remote uses Bluetooth to connect to the ATV itself. Not sure if that would reach all the way to a basement, though. I believe the IR transmitter is there to help you do things like control your TV's volume with the ATV remote.

You can control everything with IR on the ATV, except Siri.

Actually, IR has more control than just the Siri Remote alone, as it can also do advanced playback features, RW, FW, Play, Pause, track FW, Track BW, Skip FW, and Skip BW.
