Hi there, recently purchased the Apple TV 2022 128GB version to use with my Sony A80J OLED TV with the sound going via my Denon XR-2300 via HDMI ARC.

I initially had it plugged into the AV Receiver but was having lip sync issues so plugged into HDMI 4 on the TV which allows for Dolby Vision.

If I set the Audio Delay to Auto and milliseconds to zero on the Denon then Disney+, YouTube and Netflix on the Apple TV are fine but if I try and play a purchased movie like Coming to America the lips are way out. I can obviously adjust them to fit that movie by amending the audio delay on the Denon but it goes from 0 to 500ms so hard to pinpoint and then when I do it means that the other apps will be out of sync too then. Very annoying.

I have Dolby Atmos set despite only having a 5.1 set up but it gives me Dolby Digital Plus which sounds a lot better than Dolby Digital on it's own. I have also tried the Apple TV's own Wireless sync even though my speakers are wired.

Could it be the HDMI cables I am using? Picked up some 8K 120hz cables from Amazon but upon checking afterwards they are not Certified so might be the issue. Driving me mad and wasted hours looking at people talking!!

Any help most welcome. Anyone else getting similar? Bought it online from Apple so could always ask for a replacement.

When you tried the Wireless Audio Sync did you also run it using all configurations ie: 4KSDR @50Hz, 4KSDR @ 60Hz, 4KSDR @24Hz and so on for DV and HDR or just the once? If just the once then you need to also do it using all the possible configurations the content you watch uses.

You could also try just setting the sound output to DD 5.1 and see how that fairs.

Are you sure the HDMI ports that you are plugging into are arc compatible and that the tv settings are correctly aligned to ARC? Annoyingly sometimes TV manufacturers only provide one ARC HDMI port so that might be your issue. However, the fact that certain apps on your apple tv work fine and others don't on the same box makes little sense to me... If it ever happens to me I turn the box on and off and it works again;) For the record, my setup is ATV -> LG TV -> Soundbar by HDMI ARC and it works fine across all apps. You might be able to figure out which part is adding the delay by maybe using the sony TV apps to access the same streaming services and play videos, or by airplaying a video from your phone to ATV and then airplaying the same video to the Sony directly...

If you were having a problem with your HDMI cables, usually the way you can tell is that the screen flashes or pops from time to time. The bitrate of the picture is more demanding than the audio signal so that's usually how you can tell your cable is no good.

same occurs here with the prior ATV as well for me. I adjust using the Denon app audio delay if the lip sync is off. A pain once in a while.

I have my ATV running thru my Denon AVR which is connected tominput 3 on my A80J. If I turn on Match Frame Rate (or whatever the second option is under the Match settings) I got lip sync issues. When I turn it off, the lip sync issues go away. Check to see if you have it turned on and if so, try it with it turned off.

Yep this is what I was going to suggest as well. Match Frame Rate definitely breaks lip sync even if wireless audio sync has been done. I've submitted a feedback ticket with Apple before but they didn't acknowledge it and just closed the ticket saying nothing was wrong.

I also find with my HomePods that I have to switch my TV to game mode to get everything synced up even with match frame rate turned off.

The thing is it’s not entirely that Match Frame Rate breaks it, it’s pretty much usually the case that the audio is being delivered quicker than the TV is able to process the information and put the image out on screen.
All TVs are different and some handle this a lot better than others.
Depending on the TV the problem may not be an easy fix without making some sacrifices, like Frame Rate etc.
In some cases you can help matters by turning off any unnecessary picture options that add to the processing time, but again every tv is different so what may work on one may not on another.
