Hello. Does the new Apple TV 2022 with A15 chip have the better upscaling thane Apple TV 2021? Upscaling isvery important for picuture quality for 4k Tvs when you stream 720p oder 1080p content. Normally the upscaling on the newer 4k tv models ( Sony, LG ) is better than the upscaling form the Apple TV 2021. Ist the upscaling with Apple TV 2022 the same how Apple TV 2021? Unfortunately you can not choose "resolution matching" That menas that the Apple TV must make the upscaling for 4k. But with the A15 chip. Is there the upscaling better?
Thanks

Apple doesn't really talk about upscaling so outside of setting the ATV to 4K, or other resolutions, in the settings menu there's little info available. I would argue that anything streaming is going to be highly compressed regardless so it will never be as good as a BluRay disc making any talk about upscaling kind of pointless. ATV looks fine but so do the majority of streaming players.

If all input sources are equal then a higher quality TV will prove more beneficial to picture.

I agree with much of what @Sheepish-Lord said. Basically, upscaling will occur when streaming, and it will not be ideal by any means. I've got the latest ATV 4K 2022 and the latest Fire TV Cube 3rd generation and they both upscale and both look about the same. My Sony TV upscales, and it is about the same as well. I cannot compare them side beside since I only have one 4K TV, but the differences in quality are infinitesimal to my eyes, YMMV.

I have a 4k Tv. The Apple Box 4k2021. Tv shows from Teleboy are 1080p. Now i want that the TV and not the Apple TV 4k 2021 makes the upscaling. I set the output from Apple TV 4k only to 1080 p 50 hz. So the outpout is only 1080p. The 1080p shows gos on the TV with 1080p an the TV makes the upscaling to 4k? Or makes the Apple TV also in this case first a 4k signal and then downsclae to 1080p and the tv upscales on 4k?

Is it really important? I mean a 1080p picture will never become a 4K picture. So why, if the signal is 1080p, not set the 4K tv to 1080p.
How would the tv or the appletv know what to fill in the gaps that exist between 1080 and 4k. It has no information about these gaps at all. So why 'fill it up' by upscaling?

There are actually techniques to improve the quality when upscaling. LG and nvidia have AI upscalars that work quite well.

Then it is time to ask how do they do this? There is no information for the missing pixels and they have to get from 1080 to 2160 pixels. This can only mean that the missing pixels are a fantasy of the tv that is performing this magic. And when I calculate it well it means that they need to do this on half of all that you see on the screen.

I don't believe that the quality of the picture is improved. It is just adapted to your screen without any improvement.

The best way to view 1080p on a 4 k screen is to to set either AppleTV or 4kTV to adapt to the original material. The AppleTV I have can only be set to given formats. And I perceive these as preferable format. I have set it to the apparently highest quality e.g. Dolby Vision at 2160p

However not everything I stream has this quality. Some, or most, movies are still at 1080p. And when the AppleTV recalculates everything to 2160p it takes a long time before I can see something. This is very boring when watching short items like news etc or YouTube. Each time the AppleTV takes a long time to calculate the picture when I switch to something else.

The same thing happens when I set it also to 'show the original format'. Then it takes a long time before it shows the homescreen in Dolby Vision format.

Therefor I am not using the 'show original format' on the AppleTV. I use it instead on my LG OLED TV. That one is much quicker to switch from and to different formats. What the difference is between upscaled 1080p on a 4k tv and original non-scaled 1080p on a 4k TV, is beyond my understanding. Because one way or the other the empty pixel information has to be calculated. But it will most certainly not be better.

Only when you have a 4k signal on your 4k tv you will see a difference.

That simply isn't true. AI upscaling is real. It isn't a fantasy. It certainly works better certain types of content but it does improve quality in many cases.
