Since the Apple TV 3 is now not able to use YouTube I was wondering if we would be able to jailbreak it to continue using YouTube on it. Has anyone tried this or seen anything about this?

Haven't heard anything directly related to this. Jailbreaking this device has been somewhat of an impossibility up until very recently, and even now has very limited set "jailbreak" applications. Both the ATV2 and ATV3 were odd devices in this regard. Very locked down, running specialized versions of iOS... Having said all that, I'm all in on getting a solution figured out! One option might be using the Trailer app to "hack" (for lack of a better term) a Youtube feed. I've done this in this past on both of my ATV3's using Plexconnect on my network. Maybe someone can figure out a workaround

Why do you want to continue to use a ancient device? I upgraded to the HD from the 3 almost 3-years ago. Believe me the HD is a ton better and faster. The only possible advantage of the 3 is the remote.

AppleTV 3rd gen is 1080p HD... If your referring to 4k then you’d be correct..

Because it works. That’s why. I don’t feel like shelling out $200 for a new device when the one I have would work fine if these companies would just write some code.

Why? You have no idea the difference the newer models bring to the table.

Nah just upgrade.

Hello, we here in Brazil are having the same problem ... Could it be that with this lack of updates we will have a new jailbreak?

You can get a used one for as little as $42 on ebay. Don't know how you value your time, but your time jailbreaking and fixing related problems would cost more. There are a lot of improvements that came with series 4.

Incorrect. AppleTV 4th generation is AppleTVHD. This is the first model that has downloadable apps, as opposed to the previous models. YouTube is still supported on the Apple TV HD.

3rd gen is 1080p HD so HD also... Actually AppleTV 4HD not much better unless you want a crappie remote and downloadable apps. I'm waiting for whatever Apple updates the 3 year old AppleTV 4K with, it's time...

You could always still use AirPlay if you have an iPhone or iPad. This is how I've always done it since it was easier than trying to navigate through the app on the TV.

I still get Amazon Prime, Netflix and iTunes/Apple TV+ so it's not bad. I do use AirPlay if I want to watch YouTube but honestly with all the ads recently it's a pain to watch a 15 minute video when every 2-3 minutes you get an ad...
