Just bought the apple TV in addition to Amazon max and Roku ultra (I have them on different TV in the house) connected to 2022 LG OLED C2 and 2023 Sony 7.2 STR-AN1000 AV receiver using eARC. Picture quality noticeably better than Amazon or Roku but I just can’t get the Atmos to go thru. If I go to Netflix and I setup audio to 5.1 no problem, but selecting Atmos I get either NO sound at all or it will switch to LPCM. OK, I take it out and plug it directly into my receiver but no go, no Atmos, I connect Amazon stick or Roku and I have no issue with DolbyVision or Atmos so obviously can’t be the receiver, TV, cable or my speakers. Have 5.1.2 speaker setup with two Atmos height speakers. Tried 50 different setting in Apple TV and no go. OS is updated and including the beta.

It's the LG.
check the settings in the TV, I'm not home right now so don't remember if it's a setting in the port, or general audio. or maybe one in each place. But there are a couple options in the LG that affect it. Pretty sure there are 3 choices, I think pass-thru is one of them, but might not be the correct option.

don't remember if it's here or reddit, but there are several posts that give the correct combination. you should be able to find with a search.
If I remember, I'll update once I get home.

I gave up on it. Returned Apple and bought the Amazon fire TV cube. Connected to TV, update it and
everything works as it supposed to, no need to spend days on internet to find an anwer. Given Apple TV has been around for years, this should not happen.

Why didn’t you connect the aTV to your AVR?
AppleTV does not bitstream Atmos and probably your TV does not pass Dolby MAT to eARC.

If you read my message I did both, plug into TV and also directly to AVR and as I pointed out Amazonn fire stick, Roku and now Amazon fire TV cube have zero prolbem playing Atmos using AVR or connection to TV.

ah ok. And you had no Atmos from appleTV from the AN1000?
That sounds strange. I had the predecessor (DN1080) and Atmos worked since the day it was enabled on tvOS.
appleTV is a special case in surround (incl Atmos) formats because it does not send bitstream to HDMI but decodes it to PCM internally. Atmos objects are then piggybacked onto that signal.
AFAIK only Xbox does the same.
