One simple question:

Is there any chance that the usb-c port may be used for digital audio out? Maybe by some third party hack?

The lack of digital audio out is absolutely ridiculous, and those break out boxes for hdmi are hidious.

No, not true. My DAC has usb-in and many other digital ports, but no hdmi ports. So a proper usb cable would suffice.

True, in such a circumstance that would be a nice solution. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have a USB-IN port though, so a breakout box would be needed for that scenario.
