Hey all - wondering if anyone else has seen this. I have some music videos I've download over the years that I have on my MacBook Pro, and use the 'My Library' function on Apple Tv to play them on the big screen. I now have some very odd behavior happening....I start playing the 1st video, and it plays fullscreen. If I skip to the next video via the remote, it plays in a small box in the center of the screen. If I go backwards to play the 1st video (which was originally full screen), it is now also playing in a small box center screen. I think the only thing that has changed since last time I played videos (when they all were full screen) was the move to 14.3.

Anyone else seeing anything like this? I can't downgrade the OS, and have tried every video setting I can think of.....I'm at a loss!!!

I noticed the same thing today. Why would anyone want to watch music videos in a tiny box rather than full-screen?

I'm also experiencing this issue. I've recorded a demo of the bug:

It's frustrating that there is no way to downgrade. Submitting a bug report is probably the only course of action.

That's the same behavior for me...I posted over at the Apple forums too (no replies as of yet)....good idea on the bug report as well.....

Yes, got the same issue here. In fairness Apple support are taking a fair bit of interest, I’ve just been asked to send a video of the issue. I’ve got 2 4Ks and the one running 14.2 is fine but the one running 14.3 is the one with the issue.

Hi - I had an update from Apple Support today, they confirmed it's a bug which they will fix - just not sure when that will be! They suggested I call back for an update in a week.

hoping they will have a solution next week, I just noticed the same problem on mine.

Have you had any further updates from Apple Support? I note that tvOS 14.4 is now out and this issue still hasn't been fixed.

I spoke to them on Monday and they continued to say it would be fixed in the next update. Clearly it hasn’t been. I’ll be following up!

UPDATE: A call to them today resulted in being told that they continue to be aware of the issue as a number of people have reported it but they have no date for resolution. They continue to insist it will be fixed.

Hi Mark, do you mind me asking what country you called them from, and do you know where the Support you spoke to was based?
I've called Support twice now and they're still not acknowledging this as a known issue, to me. As recently as today (5th Feb) they made me perform a full reset of my Apple TV (a total pain, that accomplished nothing) and send in log files from my PC and Apple TV, and send in a video recording of the problem.
I called them from Australia and got Support in Singapore.

Hi Brett, I called them from the UK and got support from Ireland. I'm calling them every week in the hope that someone actually does something about it. I have 2 4Ks and constantly telling the one still on 14.2 not to update is getting almost as tedious as watching music videos on a tiny screen on the other one! I had to go through all the steps you've been through but that was in December.

Thanks Mark.

It's terribly frustrating that Apple's left hand (Singapore) doesn't seem to know what it's right hand (Ireland) is doing. I honestly thought Apple were better than that. If the tvOS Dev team have acknowledged the problem and are truly working on a fix, that's the response anyone who calls should get, rather than being told to reset their Apple TV, mess around collecting logs from all devices, and answer a bunch of irrelevant questions. Urgh.

Well, I noticed this as soon as I went from ATV3 to ATV4 HD earlier this year. (It was only because YouTube stopped working on ATV3.) Still not liking the fact there is no UI consistency from app to app, as there was in ATV3.

But, I could deal with that. When I started playing anything from the "Computers" App -- essentially my iTunes library on my MacBook Pro -- I noticed that music and music videos would go into this "thumbnail" view after the first song finished. The only way to get subsequent videos or songs to play "full screen" was to hit the Back or Menu buttons (I was using the original aluminum remote; the Siri remote was just too unpredictable) two or three times, but I had to do that with every subsequent song.

It wasn't worth it. I went back to my ATV3. I'll hook up my ATV4 HD the day someone at Apple realizes that some of us want to play music, movies, and videos that we "own" and actually purchased from the iTunes Store. I'm not into all this Apple 1 and Apple TV Plus This-and-That, streaming music, movies, etc., and then losing access to them as soon as I stop paying the monthly blackmail fee. (I really have this aversion to "subscription" apps that stop working the moment you stopping paying.)

FYI: Several weeks ago I noticed music videos were now playing full screen, on both my 4K ATV and the HD version.

After seeing Jdollar's message I tested my ATV 4K running 14.4 and it still reverts to thumbnail after the first video. I noticed 14.6 was available so I installed that and...it works correctly! Hurray! It also bring the interface into line with the rest of the Computers app.
