Just got the new Apple TV 4K after upgrading from the Apple TV 4 from 2015, and I immediately noticed the status light LED on the new model as significantly dimmer than the previous model. Is this something that was changed for the 2021 model or has it been like this since 2017, I could not find any other reviews or discussions that mentioned this.

They’ve all been different. tv 1st Gen was different from tv HD. This is no different IMO. Maybe I’m weird, but I don’t think it’s noteworthy.

I always put a tiny piece of black insulating tape over the led, too bright and catches my eye in dark viewing conditions.

Exactly… I really think this is an improvement this time, since it does not distract as much anymore.
