Apple TV 4K (2022): screen mirroring/Airplay not working - please help!

Dear All,

We have a Homepod Mini, some Philips Hue lights with bridge and since yesterday a brand new Apple TV 4K.

For the sake of it, I can’t get screen mirroring or Airplay to work properly. So when I select screen mirroring from the iPhone or IPad control centre the TV screen will go black for about 20s, there is the screen mirror symbol on my iPhone/iPad, but then it goes back to the previous screen and nothing happens.

I‘’ve reset the Apple TV, I’ve restarted our devices, I‘ve restarted the WiFi router. It briefly worked after restarting the router but then immediately failed again. And in the few minutes it worked, there was no sound coming from the Homepod.


What on earth is going on? I‘ve never had so many issues with an Apple product before. I’m really questioning that whole product now and it kind of spoils the fun.

A Panasonic TX-40AX630B.

Mirroring from a MacBook Air worked perfectly fine.

I messed around so much tonight, resetting Apple TV, HomePod, restarting router, phones, iPads… I’m lost for explanation and ideas.

Isn’t that the one thing that should work flawlessly?

BREAKING NEWS


I just disconnected the HomePod mini as sound output for the Apple TV and MIRRORING worked immediately! Like within a second and sound and everything is coming from the tv.

Why?! How?! I want both working together…. But at least I found something which causes it.

last Saturday I had to reset the HomePod and everything work as last friday

These HomePods have no rhyme or reason why they need troubleshooting like a MacBook
there could have been any small internet or iCloud snafu.

Oh man... I'm relatively new to the Apple cosmos (since 2018 with my first iPhone), but consistently bought more and more into them and I hate the idea something is inexplicably not working as it's supposed to.

So should I reset the HomePod mini then? Surely even if the HomePod is selected as standard audio output, mirroring should work? Is that for you the case or others?

I may be wrong as it’s been awhile but I don’t think you can AirPlay from a device to the ATV then have the ATV also outputting sound via AirPlay to another source.

This may explain why it started working when you disconnected the HomePod. Just a thought.
