I have a gigabit connection and use a Netgear Orbi RBK852 system. My new ATV shows ~30-40mbps downstream using Ookla's Speedtest app. The result is the same whether connected through wifi or ethernet. I restarted the ATV and cable modem and Orbi. Same result.

On a whim, I decided to download another internet speed test app. Using the different app, I saw what I expected: ~750mbps downstream.

Anybody experiencing something similar with Ookla's app? I noticed that the Ookla app has a warning about requiring a ATV4k 1st gen remote...I wonder if that has anything to do with the unexpected results.

Try a different service on Ookla's app.

Sometimes the default servers suck.

Thanks for this suggestion, it solved the issue. It's weird because my iPhone and computer work fine with the original server, but for some reason the ATV was getting slow results from the same one. Once I switched to a different server on the ATV, I saw ~950mbps downstream.

They are not always the same server.

The server is chosen when the app is launched, I think it is based on latency, not transfer speed.

You can change the server of course, but a general rule is to test multiple servers if you are having issues.

Or better yet, just use Netflix's server.
