FYI. It’s getting sent in to Apple as a result. Everything works fine on it but out of the blue the white light disappeared. It doesn’t come on after a restart, reset or reset and update. Just gone. Light was there one day gone the next.
 
Probably a lousy build job. That is probably one of the most common failures on electronic devices. That is, a light or backlight goes out. They use cheap labor to assemble those devices, and the person in charge of soldering the connections likely did a crappy job. Or the light itself was a cheap POS and simply burned out way before it should have.
