Hi all

I currently have a pretty old apple TV that I use pretty much only for screen sharing my MBP to the big TV . It only casts at 1080p though. If I get a the 4K apple TV can I cast 4K or even 1440p to my TV using the screen sharing of my mac book, and additionally will performance be improved using the aple 4K instead of the old 1080P model even if casting at only 1080p ?

I
What TV do you have? What version of Airplay does it support?
its a samsung 4k tv dont think it has airplay

the apple tv is quite old maybe 2015 model or older it predates the apple 4k tv by years

So you want to share your MacBook (what year?) screen to the Apple TV via Airplay, and have it show on the TV to which the Apple TV is attached?

You ask about performance. What performance issues are you having?

Yeah! I already do it with my Mbp 2019 16” and a 2017 15”

it shares at 1080p. With black borders. Sometimes theres a little lag and but it performs remarkably well.

I wondered if the latest apple tv will liet me share at 4k and if i could expect any performance gains?

hmmmm. Looking at this video, looks like the Apple tv 4K is no better than than a 5year+ old product, in fact i get better results than him.

so no sale from me, Apple.
