I have two Apple TV 4K models and two Apple TV 3rd Gen models in my house. I like to connect to all of them via my iTunes Library on my computer for a whole home audio experience. Historically, there's never been an issue, until I upgraded to the 4K models. Now, those two 4K models periodically drop, then reconnect. Both of them, there's some sort of connectivity issue with BOTH 4K's and my iTunes Library via Airplay. The 3rd Gen models still stay connected with no issues. Is there something I can do to prevent the 4K's from dropping? You would think the newer versions would be better, but they are the ones that drop. Thanks.

I have experienced this problem as well. At one point I was solely using iTunes on a Mac Mini to stream to multiple Airplay zones throughout my house. When Airplay 2 came to market I noticed intermittent signal drops and reconnects as you described. It was frustrating to say the least.

What do you have those ATV 4Ks connected to? Assume an AV Receiver? I noticed my receiver switching from PCM to Analog signal when this happened. I was never able to figure it out even with calls to Apple Support.

Moving forward, I now mainly use Apple Music. I Airplay2 to zones from my phone or have my HomePod handle the distribution while taking input from my phone, that way my phone battery doesn't strain. Using the HomePod as the main distribution center also allows my wife to make song selections / control zones using her phone. Took some getting used to but I have it down now... just my $0.02! Unfortunately your ATV 3's won't do Airplay2. I've since purchase a handful of Airport Expresses on eBay as those support Airplay2.

Have you heard of Airfoil from Rogue Amoeba? It worked flawlessly for me for many years and will connect to ATV 3. I still have my original license and they continue to update software for free.
